For Students

Through the School-to-Work Coordinator, the service offers students two types of work-related experiences:

  1. Structured Workplace Learning & Work Experience
  2. School-based Apprenticeships or Traineeships.

Structured workplace learning & Work Experience:

Eligibility:
  • Year 10 students interested in enrolling in either the Employment or VET & Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway
  • Year 11 or 12 students enrolled in Employment or VET & Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway
Experience:

Students attend a workplace which directly relates to a vocational program they are studying or plan to study. Through workplace learning experiences students can:

  • learn specific technical skills,
  • develop their communication skills in the work environment, and
  • better prepare themselves for the transition from school to work.

School-based Apprenticeships or Traineeships

Eligibility:
  • Year 11 & 12 students enrolled in School-based Traineeship /Apprenticeship Pathway
Experience:

Students who begin an apprenticeship or traineeship in Year 11 or 12 enter a training and paid employment contract with a local or regional employer.

Students’ timetable combines work, training and school study. The School-to-Work coordinator prepares all the necessary paperwork.

In addition, the School-to-Work Coordinator can also provide students and their family with:

  • Career information on a range of occupations
  • Job-search and interviewing advice
  • Support agency referrals
  • General career planning advice
