More about SET Planning... PDF Print E-mail

A Senior Education and Training Plan, or SET Plan, is a formal document that records a student’s career goal/s and their individual learning pathway through the Senior Phase of Learning.

In 2006 the Queensland Government introduced new laws, requiring all young people to be earning or learning. As a result, students enrolled in the Senior Phase of Learning (Years 10-12) now have a wider range of learning options available to them.

In Tagai State College, the SET Plan is used to ensure that students make the most of this opportunity - participating in the learning experiences that will support their transition into the education, training or employment pathway of choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the SET Plan developed?

In Tagai State College, the SET Plan is a working document - regularly reviewed to ensure that it reflects the student’s needs and current learning pathway.

The document is first completed in Term 2 as a part of a two-day program. During this program, students participate in information sessions, career planning workshops and parent-school interviews.

Who develops the SET Plan?

The SET Plan is written, implemented and reviewed collaboratively by all stakeholders:
  • the student
  • parents/guardians
  • key school personnel

What role do families play?

Tagai State College recognises the important role parents/caregivers play in their child’s future decision-making process. Therefore the College requires parental/caregiver involvement in the development of the SET Plan through a SET Plan interview.

What will happen during the Interview?

During the meeting, stakeholders will discuss key issues and complete the SET Plan document. This will include nominating the student’s:

3. Documenting the Plan
4. Implementing the Plan.

Before completing their SET Plan, students engage in future-oriented activities through which they:
