All activities undertaken by Tagai State College are aimed towards enhancing the learning outcomes for all students.

In order to fulfil the commitments made to the Torres Strait Nation, the College has adopted five strategic foundations:

These foundations highlight the College’s strategic direction for 2008 – 2010 and will act to guide the collective actions of all Campuses and work units.


Foundation One: Seamless Education Pathway from PrePrep to TAFE

  • Implement a sustainable and effective curriculum leadership structure at both Campus and College levels
  • Implement systemic syllabus and curriculum reforms to enhance the quality of educational delivery in the Torres Strait
  • Develop contextualized curriculum activities and resources which reflect the unique context of the Torres Strait
  • Work in partnership with Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE to deliver vocational education and training programs relevant for the Torres Straiit
  • Reinforce a culture of school transparency of student achievement reporting

 

Foundation Two: Proactive Student Services

  • Implement proactive & outreach services for all students
  • Develop a model of increased flexibility of instruction to ensure all students are engaged in at least 1000 hours of quality learning experiences each year
  • Reinforce a culture of “individual student data with consequences”
  • Quality-assured information management processes in the reporting of Child Safety concerns
  • Provide timely and appropriate specialist support services for all identified students

 

Foundation Three: Centre of Excellence in Pacific Studies

  • Design and implement an expanded PP – Year 12 “Learning Frame” which integrates systemic curriculum with teaching and learning activities relevant to
    • Torres Strait Language & Culture,
    • Marine Studies,
    • Torres Strait Art and
    • Sport Development

 

Foundation Four: Solution-focused Business Services

  • Develop an inclusive governance structure which reflects needs of stakeholders
  • Manage fiscal resources to comply with systemic policies and College priorities
  • Implement human resource management systems to meet the long and short term needs of the College
  • Implement centralised facilities management systems to plan and track campus and accommodation maintenance
  • Implement quality communication and marketing strategies which meet the strategic and operational needs of the College.

 

Foundation Five: Robust, flexible and accountable organisation structures

  • Develop clear role statements for all staff of the College, which clearly specify key accountabilities
  • Reinforce a culture of individual action planning and performance monitoring
  • Develop clearly articulated strategic and operational plans for the College
  • Communicate the College’s progress to internal and external stakeholders through quality, transparent reporting procedures.
