Yorke Island Campus is a P – 7 campus which caters for the effective, quality teaching and learning of approximately 50 students according to the present curriculum movement of Bound For Success.

The majority of the staff here at Yorke Island Campus are indigenous, ranging from the Acting Head of Campus, teachers and teacher aides. The only non-indigenous staff members are the RATEP co-ordinator and the Year 5/6/7 teacher who is on contract.

Yorke Island Campus in the past six years has been working closely with Denyse Ritchie who is the driving force behind the THRASS program. The students result from the THRASS program have improved greatly, our data has shown a steady progress in the literacy area over these past years. It has helped the students with their reading, writing and spelling and also given the teachers a greater insight into how to teach literacy effectively. In 2005 Yorke Island Campus won the National Literacy Award and it is all thanks to the THRASS program.

We have identified the need for parental and community support within the Campus so we are currently working together with the Councils, Community and Parents to bridge the gap between parents, community and the campus.

Our culture and tradition plays an important part in the learning and growing up of our students, so our programs are culturally appropriate and at the same time meeting the need and outcomes of Education Queensland.
