Teacher Education Flyer

James Cook University, in partnership with Tagai State College, the Torres Strait Islanders’ Regional Education Council (TSRIEC) and the Department of Education Training and Employment, seek expressions of interest from Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders with the passion and commitment to become teachers who positively influence and make a difference to student’s school achievements.
In 2014, James Cook University will offer a Bachelor of Education at its Cairns Campus. You can apply to be part of a NEW initiative studying with a group of other Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander colleagues and specialist education support staff. While studying at JCU, you will have access to a diverse range of technologies to complete your studies. In addition, the support offered to you will assist you with scholarships, accommodation, employment and other priority services. This support has been specifically designed to ensure you achieve your full potential, hence the slogan - "Start together, Finish Together".
Depending on your previous training & qualifications, you could go straight in the four year Bachelor of Education program. Alternatively you could combine a tertiary access program with the Bachelor of Education over four and a half year program. Programs could be undertaken full time or part time.
As a JCU education student, you will gain professional experience in the classroom throughout your degree, including professional experience opportunity at Tagai State College.
Graduates with a Bachelor of Education are qualified to teach anywhere in Australia, and as an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander graduate, you will be increasing the number of Indigenous teachers as role models across Australian schools but also be making a vital contribution to improving career pathways for students across the Torres Strait Islands.
Expressions of interest should be submitted to:

Once you have submitted an expression of interest, we will contact you with more information about the program and the process for enrolment
