English Name: Stephen Island

Traditional Name: Ugar

Ugar is home to the region’s smallest community. It is an island of volcanic origin, with rich fertile soil and dense tropical vegetation. As there is no airstrip, residents are serviced by a locally operated ferry service between Erub and Ugar. Commercial helicopters can also transport people from other islands.

The dialect spoken on Stephen is the Ugar Mir dialect which is a part of the Meriam Mir traditional language.

Stephen Island Campus is a one teacher campus where support is provided by a teacher aide and a Cultural teacher. We are committed to maintaining high expectations for our students in helping prepare them for positive learning futures.
